As a member of the Michigan Capital Area Chapter of ASPA, I want to invite you to an exciting conference we are putting on, “Talent and Retention in Michigan: Revitalizing Our State and Preparing for the Future.” I know this topic is a major concern for most of us, as we want expanding opportunities to be here in our state for the next generations. The conference is in Grand Rapids, at the Eberhard Center of Grand Valley State University, to be held on November 13, 2015. We plan to have George Heartwell, Mayor of Grand Rapids speak to our group to kick off the conference. Conference registration begins at 8:00 a.m., with the first panels beginning at 8:45. The final panels finish at 3:15 p.m with a short networking session scheduled afterwards. Note: We will also hold a general membership meeting of our Michigan Capital Area Chapter as a part of this November 13 conference.
We will look at ways to use Michigan’s strong resources, such as its highly-regarded universities and colleges, the Great Lakes, and cultural opportunities, to attract and retain top talent for our state’s workforce. Panels on topics such as talent and retention, “placemaking” and the arts, and economic development will give us a greater understanding of the opportunities and problems Michigan faces in keeping our college and university graduates and enhancing opportunities for a variety of our young talent who wish to stay in the state. For information and registration, please go to: www.mipaforum.org for additional information.
Our group is only as strong as its members and we strive to create events to engage you and the communities we serve. Please share this information on the upcoming conference with those who might want to attend and with those who might want to become a part of our chapter of ASPA.
